Water Wars
Theatr Brycheiniog
Theatre | TheatrCompany of Sirens presents the Welsh Tour of Eco-Thriller“Water Wars” by Ian Rowlands
A powerful new eco-thriller by acclaimed playwright Ian Rowlands. This hard-hitting, bi-lingual production, presented in both Welsh and English, will tour theatres across Wales in the Spring, bringing audiences a timely exploration of one of the most pressing environmental crises of our time - the global water crisis.
“Who owns the rain?”
Water Wars is a powerful and visceral eco-thriller which delves into a dystopian near future, where global water shortages spark political conflict and personal betrayals. As communities are torn apart by dwindling resources, the play questions humanity's priorities, the price of survival, and the impact of environmental degradation on the fabric of society. With its hard-hitting, uncompromising blend of suspense, political intrigue, and deeply personal stories, the production is set to engage audiences and spark important conversations about sustainability, ownership, and the future of our existence.
“What makes you think that we would willingly thirst to death, so that you can water the green lawns of Surbiton?”
Directed by Chris Durnall, Artistic Director of Company of Sirens,Water Wars brings together a cast of highly experienced Welsh actors, expertly weaving together Welsh and English dialogue to reflect the bilingual reality of modern Wales. This eco-thriller is both global and local, underscoring Wales' rich cultural heritage while addressing an issue of worldwide importance.

Wynford Jones and Geoff Cripps
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Music | Cerddoriaeth FywWynford Jones and Geoff Cripps’ towering presence on the folk circuit over four decades has been immense. Both founder members of much-loved 80s folk-rock pioneers The Chartists, Wynford and Geoff retain all their energy and verve. Wynford’s songs articulate, like few others can, the radical Welsh working-class experience…and the poignant memories of growing up in the Valleys. All are underpinned by the sensitive playing of multi-instrumentalist Geoff, a visionary campaigner for folk music whose work on the arts scene has nurtured new generations of performers. The duo’s current stage act has been given fresh impetus by the digital release of The Chartists’ long-unavailable masterwork Cause For Complaint. It is an album that left Wales’s pre-eminent modern songwriter Martyn Joseph awestruck. “I can’t recall a moment in my lifetime when we needed the siren call of protest more than now,” he said. “We need the spirit of these songs…to remind ourselves of who we truly are.”

FOOL’S PARADISE
Luminescent and shimmering, Fool’s Paradise marked the first of Wheeldon’s many collaborations with composer Joby Talbot. It was created in 2007 for Wheeldon’s own company, Morphoses, and first performed in 2012 by The Royal Ballet.
THE TWO OF US
The wistful songs of Joni Mitchell set the scene for the UK premiere of The Two of Us, a duet of deep intimacy and yearning. It was created in 2020 for the Fall for Dance Festival in New York, and had American ballet dancers Sarah Mearns and David Hallberg in its original cast.
US (DUET)
Us is a tender duet danced by two men. It was created in 2017 for BalletBoyz and is set to Keaten Henson’s music.
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (BALLET)
The Royal Ballet celebrates Wheeldon’s extraordinary success in musical theatre by performing the ballet scene from his Tony Award-winning musical An American in Paris. Set to Gershwin’s jazzy melodies, the musical is inspired by the 1951 film of the same name starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. The musical went on to win four Tony awards. The full musical depicts a blossoming romance between the American G.I. Jerry Mulligan and a French ballerina, Lise Dassin. The ballet excerpt was Wheeldon’s take on one of the most memorable scenes from the film – an extended sequence in which the two central characters dance through Paris.
