NT Live: The Tragedy of King Richard the Second (Encore)
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Screenings | Sgrinio BywNational Theatre Live
The Tragedy of King Richard the Second By William ShakespeareSimon Russell Beale plays William Shakespeare’s Richard II, broadcast live from the stage of the Almeida Theatre in London to cinemas.
This visceral new production about the limits of power will be directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, whose previous plays include Little Revolution at the Almeida and Absolute Hell at the National Theatre.
Richard II, King of England, is irresponsible, foolish and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. Seeing no other option but to seize power, the ambitious Bolingbroke challenges the throne and the king’s divine right to rule.
Simon Russell Beale returns to National Theatre Live screens following broadcasts of Timon of Athens and King Lear, and his recent role in the National Theatre’s critically acclaimed production of The Lehman Trilogy.
A reminder that audiences should be aware this production has been rated a 12A by the BBFC.

Do we dare step into the light? Are we merely moths to its flame?
Directed by Frantic Assembly’s Scott Graham and incorporating an international cast of performers with and without learning disabilities, Hijinx & Teatro la Ribalta’s Into the Light is daring physical theatre about the right to be seen and heard, performed by those we need to see and hear.

Tim Marshall - Divided: Why We’re Living in an Age of Walls
Theatr Brycheiniog
Spoken Word | DarlithiauAuthor of the No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller, Prisoners of Geography, Tim Marshall will be speaking about his new book Divided: Why We’re Living in an Age of Walls.
Which side of the fence are you on? Every story has two sides, and so does every wall. We’re in a new era of tribalism and the barricades are going up.
Money, race, religion, politics: these are the things that divide us. Trump’s wall says as much about America’s divided past as it does its future. The Great Firewall of China separates ‘us’ from ‘them’. In Europe, the explosive combination of politics and migration threatens liberal democracy itself.
Covering China; the USA; Israel and Palestine; the Middle East; the Indian Subcontinent; Africa; Europe and the UK, in this gripping talk Tim delves into our past and our present to reveal the fault lines that will shape our world for years to come.- Mar 6, 2019, 7:00 PM Book Now

Pinocchio
Theatr Brycheiniog
Children's Events | Digwyddiadau i BlantPINOCCHIO – Carlo Collodi. La Baldufa Theatre, Catalonia.
Presented by Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch
as part of the Agor Drysau-Opening Doors International Festival 2018 supported by the Arts Council of Wales’ Lottery Fund.
Pinocchio is the story of a child free from prejudices: he’s disobedient and mischievous, yet at the same time naïve. Really naïve. Geppetto, his father, tries to watch over his education. In return, Pinocchio, ever disobedient, is drawn into a series of adventures which will make him grow as a person and very nearly… with a surprising end.
This is a fantastic and fabulous new interpretation. Paper and wood are used to create a production which is multifaceted and organic, through which we can dive into the imagination of a child-puppet - a tale which invites us to reflect on values such as education, graft, responsibility and sincerity.
No language.

Rich Halls Hoedown
Theatr Brycheiniog
Comedy | ComediRich Hall’s critically acclaimed new show begins its second leg of touring. There has never been a better time to be an American comedian in the UK. Hall’s precision dismantling of the tenuous relationship between two countries is as freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever. His BBC Four documentaries, most recently Rich Hall’s Countrier Than You and Rich Hall’s Presidential Grudge Match and BBC Radio 4 series Rich Hall’s (US Election) Breakdown have built him a new legion of followers, as has appearances on Have I Got News For You and QI. But if you’ve only ever seen Hall on TV, you’ve short-changed yourself.
“As close as it gets to a guaranteed good show”
(Scotland on Sunday)
The Hoedown begins as a withering dissection of Trump’s America, but ends up being a celebration of Americana. There’s stand-up, improvised ballads, cracking good musicianship, and ultimately a hilarious, foot-stomping, shit-kicking good time to be had by all. Even if you don’t own a hoe.

ROH Faust
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Screenings | Sgrinio BywExperience the decadence and elegance of 1870s paris in David Mcvicar’s spectacular production of Gounod’s best-loved opera.
There are many versions of the story of Faust, who trades his soul with the Devil for youth and power, but Gounod’s opera remains one of the most constantly enthralling. Michael Fabiano stars as Faust, with Diana Damrau as his beloved Marguerite and Erwin Schrott as the diabolical Méphistophélès. Virtuoso leading roles, a large chorus, sensational sets, ballet and an ecstatic finale make this the epitome of theatrical spectacle – the lavish scale of French grand opera is wonderfully in evidence in this production by David McVicar, set in 1870s Paris. Above all, the music includes several of popular opera’s most recognizable numbers, performed by a cast of great international singers and the Royal Opera Chorus.
Music: Charles-François Gounod
Director: David Mcvicar
Conductor: Dan EttingerApproximate running time: 3 hours 45 minutes, including one interval | Sung in French with English subtitles.

DetailsSaturday, June 8, 2019 - Sunday, June 9, 2019
As A Tiger In The Jungle
Theatr Brycheiniog
Entertainment | AdloniantA strong and heart-warming performance about rescued child slaves from Indian traditional circus.
This performance is inspired by the lives and destiny of our performers Renu and Aman experiences as child circus slaves in India. It also highlights the story of other Nepalese children being trafficked into slavery in Indian traditional circus. From 2002, when this was discovered, over 700 children have been discovered and rescued or released.
In 2013 producer Ali Williams spent a year working as the Creative Director of Circus Kathmandu. Circus Kathmandu was a group of 13 young men and women who all were rescued from Indian circuses, including our performers, Renu and Aman.
Ali Williams invited director Sverre Waage to come to Kathmandu to meet the newly formed circus company. That was the start of a collaboration between Ali and Sverre, with the aim to build bridges between the developing circus environment in Kathmandu and the International community of performing art producers and programmers in UK, Norway and Europe.
The first achievement is the production and touring of As a Tiger in The Jungle, representing the international partnership of prize-winning director and play-writer Sverre Waage (Norway) and Ali Williams (Wales), co-founder and former artistic director of NofitState.
Ali and Sverre have been working with the two Nepalese circus artists, Renu and Aman, over the last three years and for this project have integrated Loan TP Hoang a Vietnamese refugee with her own story of a lost childhood. As a Tiger in The Jungle is a unique fusion of Asian and European performance, circus and music. Original music score composed by Per Zanussi.
