Three Men In A Boat
Theatr Brycheiniog
After the huge success of Old Herbaceous, Kick In The Head productions are back with a rip roaring barrel of fun, Three Men in a Boat, with Giles Shenton (Old Herbaceous himself!) playing the part of Jerome K Jerome.
Join Jerome as he recounts the hilarious story of his boating holiday along the magnificent River Thames with his two companions and Montmorency the dog. Come and join in the fun as Giles Shenton expertly takes the helm and pilots you through the ridiculous tale of men behaving badly while messing about in boats!“There are a few seriously funny books that remain great for all time. Three Men in a Boat is one of these” The Guardian
“Timeless appeal” The Independent
“Pitch-perfect comedy about, well, three men in a boat” The Telegraph
Giles Shenton "creates an instant rapport with the audience, drawing us into his world and making the characters in it so real we feel you have known them forever. " Edinburgh Fringe Review
"Skilfully distilled from Jerome K. Jerome’s comic masterpiece into 95 minutes of pure delight. To those who wondered if the same team could live up to the earlier success of Old Herbaceous, the answer was an emphatic yes. A master class in confidence, stagecraft and delivery." Opening Night Review
“The nearest thing to "audio slapstick" I've ever heard, culminating in the sublime comedy of opening a tin, when you've forgotten the tin opener. It is not often that you come out of a theatrical performance feeling like you've been sharing happy and hilarious times, safe from a cruel world & wrapped in a warm blanket.” Vera Fletcher Review

The Fitzwilliam String Quartet: Shostakovitch Inspired!
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Music | Cerddoriaeth FywThis exciting Music, Words and Live Art event with music painter Maryleen Schiltkamp and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet promises to be a unique experience! Maryleen will paint on canvas, live on stage in response to the Fitzwilliam String Quartet’s performance of Shostakovich’s 10th String Quartet. The quartet will also play Shostakovich’s 11th String Quartet and there will be readings from the composer’s diaries and memoirs. Music painting is an exciting new performance art, combining live music with artistic creations on canvas. The live painting on stage will follow and literally illustrate the musical movement and shapes heard and the colour of sound.
The Fitzwilliam is now one of the longest established string quartets in the world and achieved international recognition as a result of its members’ personal friendship with Dmitri Shostakovich and their subsequent championing of his string quartets following his death. Shostakovich entrusted them with the Western premières of the last three quartets and they became the first ever group to perform and record all fifteen.

James Acaster: COLD LASAGNE HATE MYSELF 1999
Theatr Brycheiniog
Comedy | ComediOne time I bought a lasagne from the supermarket, heated it up in the oven and ate a bit of it and it wasn't very nice so I put it in the fridge because it felt wrong to dump a whole lasagne in the bin and then later on I ate a spoonful of the cold lasagne because I was drunk and it was absolutely delicious. It was 4am. I then changed the name of a WhatsApp I was a part of to COLD LASAGNE HATE MYSELF 1999 because I had been thinking a lot about how 1999 was the best year of my life and also about how much I hate myself sometimes. The next day I was asked to name my new show. Come along.

Theatr Brycheiniog
Spoken Word | DarlithiauFor centuries, the arts in Russia were dominated by the Orthodox Church, whose power was only curtailed by Peter the Great. By the end of the 18th century, the arts had begun to flourish, but were heavily westernized and subject to court patronage. This lecture tells the story of how native artists, composers and writers broke away from the court in the 19th century in order to forge a cultural identity that was truly Russian. Emerging from obscurity on the eve of twentieth century, the cultural explosion on the eve of the 1917 Revolution then brought Russian art into the international arena in spectacular fashion.

It's A Wonderful Life
Theatr Brycheiniog
Drama | DramaInspired by the classic American film, It's a Wonderful Life: a live radio play is performed as a 1940s live radio broadcast in front of a studio audience. With the help of an ensemble of six actors and a live foley artist, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. It will take help from a lovable angel, Clarence, to show George what life would be like if he hadn’t been born for George to have a change of heart and understand the true spirit of the holidays.
With director Joe Harmston at the helm (creator of Murder On Air, a staged version of Agatha Christie’s three extant radio plays which played to packed houses all over the UK), with live music and a cast of six actors bringing the town of Bedford Falls to life, Lighthouse Theatre presents this ingenious staging of a timeless classic film and seasonal favourite.
