Operation Julie
Theatr Brycheiniog
Musical | Sioeau CerddIt’s coming! An anarchic new musical that’s going to (prog) rock Wales.
Theatr na nÓg are delighted to be working with Aberystwyth Arts Centre to present one of the most jaw-dropping true stories ever to come out of Wales…
OPERATION JULIE.
Breaking Bad collides with The Good Life in a psychedelic true story from the hillsides of rural Wales.
It was hardly a typical drugs bust. When police from around the country swooped before dawn on Tregaron one morning in 1977, dozens of the 800 officers working the case looked like unshaven, long-haired hippies plucked from the audience of a Led Zep gig.
And the vast LSD co-operative they were targeting was, if anything, even more unconventional. Its leading members included doctors, scientists and university graduates - motivated, they insisted, by an evangelical drive to transform human consciousness itself.
An anarchic play with music from the 70's prog-rock that tells the incredible story of the undercover operation that smashed one of the most extraordinary drug rings the world has ever seen.
Operation Julie – The drugs bust in rural 1970s Wales that shook the world
This is the kind of story that you’ve already heard whispers of.
This is the kind of story you can’t really believe happened. But you’ll talk to people about it and they’ll remember. They’ll know people who were there.
It’s a story that has grown beyond itself until the lines between truth and legend have blurred. A story that gripped village gossips and worldwide media alike.
Age restriction 16+ (or 14+ accompanied by an adult)

Angel
Theatr Brycheiniog
Theatre | TheatrDirected by Peter Doran
Designed by Sean Crowley
Featuring Yasemin Özdemir
One woman’s brave fight against the biggest threat to her town and its people.
Angel is the legendary story of Rehana;. In 2014 Kurdish families were fleeing Kobane to avoid the inevitable ISIS onslaught; Rehana stayed to fight and defend her town; as a sniper, she allegedly killed more than 100 ISIS fighters. When her story came out, she became an internet sensation and a symbol of resistance against Islamic State and dubbed the ‘Angel of Kobane’. Now, this legendary story comes to the stage in Henry Naylor's award winning play Angel.
Angel, a one-woman show, is the third story in Henry Naylor’s Arabian Nightmares trilogy and was first staged to great acclaim at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016. Since then it has been seen around the world to great critical acclaim, winning awards at many international festivals. The Torch Theatre bring you their own production, directed by Peter Doran, designed by Sean Crowley and featuring Yasemin Özdemir as the eponymous Angel.
This is a hard-hitting exploration of Angel’s story, during a time when the themes are very much still relevant and present in modern society.
Angel is suitable for those aged 14+, the play contains strong language and distressing scenes that some may find uncomfortable.

Crown Ballet presents Sleeping Beauty
Theatr Brycheiniog
Dance | DawnsAfter the sell-out performances of Nutcracker and Swan Lake in the last few years, Crown Ballet finally returns to the UK.
Every child’s favourite fairy-tale, Sleeping Beauty is the classic story of love and innocence, mystery and magic set to Tchaikovsky’s sublime score.
Stunning choreography, sumptuous costumes and wonderful sets form the fantasy world in which the Lilac Fairy struggles against the evil Carabosse.
Outline based on the fairy-tale by Charles Perrault, the Sleeping Beauty tells of the Princess Aurora, cursed at her christening by the evil Carabosse to prick her finger one day on a spindle and die.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Lilac Fairy, she doesn’t die, but sleeps for a hundred years.
Woken by a prince, who has battled through the Enchanted Forest to reach her, they marry at a ceremony attended by nursery rhyme characters like Puss in Boots and all the other forest creatures.
There are no scores more successful in supporting the full range of ballet than those by Tchaikovsky.
Highlights include the Famous ‘Rose Adagio’ when Princess Aurora is introduced to four princes.
A wonderful evening out and memories which you will cherish long after the final curtain falls.
