Theatr brycheiniog cultural cafe
Although we are still unable to open fully we are excited to have our new Cultural Café open in our auditorium!
Towards the end of 2020 we held an open call for artists and designers, recruiting a freelancer to support the development of an artistically curated space on our stage and in our auditorium.
While we have been closed to the public our staff have been working hard, moving the café function to the flat floored auditorium to increase the COVID secure measures for visitors to the theatre.
The Cultural Café installation is a celebration of the wonderful myriad of people who would usually utilise the space at Theatr Brycheiniog. A whole cross section of the community in Brecon make use of our theatre for numerous activities, from Tai Chi to Taiko Drumming, Ballet Dancing to Band Practice. While government restrictions remain in place the theatre is in limited use and those groups of people cannot be as present as they would like to be in the space. In response to this, artist and theatre designer Harry Pizzey has created an installation which depicts over sixty members of the Theatr Brycheiniog community from eighteen different user groups making them present once again in the building. These portraits are displayed in the auditorium in a huge sky-like blue arch as a reminder of the amazing range of activities and people that would normally occupy the theatre and will continue to do so when restrictions are lifted.
This truly is an impressive art installation on a grand scale and we can't wait to share it with you!
Our Culture Cafe will also offer a beautiful celebratory space for hot and cold drinks, light pre-packaged snacks and a selection of sweet treats, pastries and cakes. Perfect for the pick me up we all need.
We plan to open initially between 11am and 3pm, but as measures allow and we all get used to our new ways of working, it is hoped these hours can be extended.
Once again we thank you for your understanding and support.
