The award-winning company, Ballet Cymru, present an extraordinary vision. Two stories are from the mind of the most famous storyteller in the world, Roald Dahl.

Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, Cardiff and now two of his hugely popular stories come home to Wales in ballet adaptations. Ballet Cymru was granted permission from The Roald Dahl Foundation to produce two works based on selections of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs.

Both works are based on outstanding and internationally recognised musical scores by composer Paul Patterson. The two scores were commissioned by The Dahl Foundation and have become children’s classics played all over the globe. The “Little Red Riding Hood” score was featured in a 1995 BBC Christmas Day special featuring the voices of Ian Holm, Julie Walters, and Danny DeVito. Now Patterson’s dazzling scores are set in dance for the first time.

This outstanding classical ballet was choreographed by Darius James OBE and Amy Doughty with music by composer Paul Patterson, costumes by Steve Denton and a stunning lighting design by John Bishop.

Accessibility at Theatr Brycheiniog

Theatr Brycheiniog is working towards becoming fully accessible, with flat access to the building through automatic doors and lift access to all floors. The auditorium has spaces for wheelchair users and there are toilet facilities for our disabled customers on every floor.

Relaxed Performances

We have several shows throughout our programme that also offer ‘Relaxed Performances’. These performances are adaptations of the show specifically designed for anyone who may find the typical theatre experience overwhelming or who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.

During a relaxed performance, house lights are left on low and strobe lighting may be removed. Loud noises or explosions are either taken out entirely or reduced. The audience is free to go in and out of the auditorium as needed and latecomer rules are relaxed. Making noise during the performance is not discouraged. There are additional staff members on hand to assist as required and the cast and crew has awareness training before the performance.

Chill-out areas are provided for anyone who may become overwhelmed by the performance. The house will open earlier to give everyone plenty of time to get to their seats.
