Feral Monster follows Jax and her noisy, opinionated brain as they navigate love, identity, class and family. Mashing up grime, R&B, soul, pop and rap, the soundtrack takes us from the high highs to low lows of the hormonal rollercoaster of adolescence.

The Comfort Kitchen donated 10% of their takings from Saturday the 28th of November to Theatre Brycheiniog. They raised £40 for us and we are so grateful. The food looked incredible, thank you Gail!

Here is an interview explaining why they decided to help us.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU LIVED IN BRECON?

Since April 2017.

WHEN/WHERE DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED WITH COOKING?

My mum had a good housekeeping cook book when I was small and I loved the pictures in it. When I was 8 I burned my first batch of meringues, using a recipe from that book and I’ve been hooked ever since!

WHEN/WHERE DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED WITH THE THEATR?

When I was very little, my parents staged plays once a year with my fathers' navy colleagues. They practiced after work late into the night for weeks and made most of the costumes and props themselves. I had a ringside view of the magical transformations that occurred and I’ve loved performance art ever since!

WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE THEATR THAT YOU LOVE?

I love how it can transport you to another place and time, it is a creative force that nurtures everything it touches. Society without creativity is society without a soul. However tired I am when I go to the theater, I always come out feeling refreshed and energised!

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEATR BRYCHEINIOG?

We didn’t know a soul when we moved to Brecon. I asked about applying to be a volunteer and a few months later I got the call. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and friendly. It was my first little community here in this new life. Quite often, if I’m not volunteering and if I want to see something and I’ve got no one to go with, I’ll go by myself but I never feel alone.

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO HELP US?

Helping you is helping myself. Helping in the community where help is needed results in a stronger happier community, and a better place for everyone to live in.

The theater gives volunteers, retired people and self employed folks a community, it gives our artists and young people a platform to showcase their talents, and it brings the world to our small town in so many ways! I wanted to do something to help to spread information about how much the value Theatr Brycheiniog and the performing arts in general bring to Brecon and the world. There is so much wrong with the world at this point in time. I just wanted to do something to shift the balance even just the tiniest little bit.

DO YOU HAVE ANY STORIES ABOUT THE THEATR?

I’ve got one funny story. One of the first times I volunteered at the theater, I was assigned to the balcony to check tickets with another volunteer. I went up and waited... and waited. The other volunteer didn’t turn up and when the start of show announcement was made, I found the door was locked. In a panic I ran back down and found our Duty Manager Zoe who explained to me that I’d been standing outside the wrong door 20 minutes! I was used to India where the top most row of seats is called the balcony!

ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD?

Just a great big thank to the theatre’s marketing team for sharing The Comfort Kitchen on social media and to David, Lisa and Tin for giving me the opportunity to do this.
