Relaxed performance
Please note the show on the 3rd July at 1.30pm is a relaxed performance.
What is a relaxed performance?
It is an adapted version of the show specifically designed for anyone who may find the typical theatre experience overwhelming or who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.
During a relaxed performance house lights are left on low and strobe lighting may be removed. Loud noises or explosions are either taken out entirely or reduced. The audience is free to go in and out of the auditorium as needed and latecomer rules are relaxed. Making noise during the performance is not discouraged. There are additional staff members on hand to assist as required and the cast and crew has awareness training before the performance.
Chill-out areas are provided for anyone who may become overwhelmed by the performance. The house will open earlier to give everyone plenty of time to get to their seats. Theatr Brycheiniog is a Dementia Friendly Organisation and respects the needs of neurodiverse individuals. People with a learning or physical disability, autistic spectrum condition, or sensory or communication disorder are especially welcome.
Choreography and Music
Featuring choreography from Darius James and Amy Doughty this is a re-staging of the 2018 production which won ‘Best Large Scale Dance Production’ at the Wales Theatre Awards.
The adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic play will blend ballet with various other forms of dance including traditional Welsh clog dancing, and will all be accompanied by the famous score by Sergei Prokoviev. Listen to the Soundcloud here.
Costumes
Georg Meyer-Wiel has designed costumes and props for film, opera, ballet and numerous dance theatre productions, and has collaborated with leading choreographers such as Garry Stewart, Mark Baldwin and Rafael Bonachela.
The costumes and video projections create a world of danger and excitement where two young lovers are caught in an age old feud.
“I was very impressed. The design content is fantastic. A stunning collection with the use of leather and feathers, it was divine. Very inspirational. It is exciting when you see a totally original approach with a completely new look.” - Anne Tyrrell, British Fashion Council
