Theatr Clwyd yn cyhoeddi taith o addasiad Cymraeg Fleabag

Yn ddiweddarach y flwyddyn yma yma cyhoeddodd Theatr Clwyd ei bod yn cynhyrchu premiere byd drama gomedi arobryn Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Fleabag, a fydd yn cael ei haddasu i’r Gymraeg.

Ysgrifennwyd a pherfformiwyd y sioe yn wreiddiol gan Phoebe Waller-Bridge yng Ngŵyl Fringe Caeredin. Wedyn addaswyd y sioe yn gyfres deledu ar y BBC a enillodd wobrau BAFTA, Emmy a Golden Globe.

Mae cynhyrchiad Theatr Clwyd o Fleabag wedi cael ei addasu gan yr awdur arobryn o Gymru, Branwen Davies (Dirty Protest ac Os Nad Nawr). Mae’r sioe wedi’i hadleoli yng ngogledd Cymru, ac mae’r Gymraeg yn dod â haen newydd o ystyr a dehongliad sy’n unigryw i’r cynhyrchiad yma. Yn perfformio bydd Leah Gaffey (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Theatr y Sherman), gyda Sara Lloyd (Nyrsys, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru) cyfarwyddo’r cynhyrchiad newydd cyffrous hon.

Wrth i’r ymarferion ddechrau ar gyfer y gomedi un fenyw ddrygionus yma, mae Theatr Clwyd wedi cyhoeddi heddiw y bydd y sioe yn teithio ledled Cymru cyn ei pherfformiad olaf yn y lleoliad. Bydd y perfformiad agoriadol yn cael ei chynnal yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, Llŷn ac Eifionydd (8-10 Awst). Bydd wedyn yn teithio i Theatr y Torch, Sir Benfro (29 Awst), Theatr Soar, Merthyr Tudful (30 Awst), Canolfan Gelfyddydol Neuadd Dwyfor, Pwllheli (2 Medi), Theatr y Sherman Caerdydd (5-8 Medi), Theatr Mwldan, Aberteifi (12 Medi), Pontio Bangor (15-16 Medi), Theatr Brycheiniog, Aberhonddu (20 Medi), Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth (22-23 Medi) a bydd y daith yn dod i ben yn Theatr Clwyd (27-30 Medi).

Mae’r sioe fudr, ddoniol, heb ffilter yma’n dilyn siwrnai ddi-drefn Cymraes tuag at fod â dim i’w golli. Efallai ei bod hi'n ymddangos yn or-rywiol, yn emosiynol amrwd ac yn hunanobsesiynol, ond dim ond y dechrau ydi hynny. Gyda pherthnasoedd dan straen a chaffi mewn trafferthion, mae hi ar y dibyn heb unrhyw le i fynd yn ôl pob tebyg.

Dywedodd Liam Evans-Ford am y cynhyrchiad:

Mae Fleabag yn un o sioeau unigol gorau’r 10 mlynedd diwethaf – mae ganddi lais nodedig a hiwmor prin. Mae’n sioe rydyn ni wedi bod yn ei datblygu dros y 2 flynedd ddiwethaf, a gobeithio y byddwn yn cyflwyno fersiwn Cymraeg o sioe sy’n llwyddiant ysgubol i gynulleidfaoedd. Mae’r Fleabag Cymraeg yn dod â haenau newydd o ystyr a dehongliad a fydd yn unigryw i’n cynhyrchiad ni ond yn driw hefyd i’r gwreiddiol. Rydym yn hynod ddiolchgar bod Phoebe wedi caniatáu i ni fynd â’i stori a’i hadrodd o’r newydd yn yr iaith Gymraeg – am fraint, ac am dîm gwych o dîm creadigol o ferched sydd gennym i wneud hynny!

Bydd Fleabag yn cael ei pherfformio yn Theatr Clwyd ar 27-30 Medi. Tocynnau o £10 a’r oedran a argymhellir ydi 16+. Archebu ar gael ar wefan Theatr Clwyd yn www.theatrclwyd.com neu ffoniwch y Swyddfa Docynnau ar 01352 344101. Rhestr lawn y daith ar gael yn www.theatrclwyd.com/event/fleabag

Earlier this year Theatr Clwyd announced they are producing a world premiere of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s award-winning comedic play Fleabag, which will be adapted into the Welsh language.

Originally written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the show was then turned into a BBC TV series which won BAFTAs, Emmys and a Golden Globe award.

Theatr Clwyd’s production of Fleabag has been adapted by acclaimed Welsh writer Branwen Davies (Dirty Protest and Os Nad Nawr). The show has been re-set in north Wales, and the Welsh language brings a new layer of meaning and interpretation unique to this production. Leah Gaffey (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sherman Theatre) will perform and Sara Lloyd (Nyrsys, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru) will direct this exciting new production.

As rehearsals begin for this wicked one-woman comedy, Theatr Clwyd has today announced that the show will tour across Wales before its final performance at the venue. The opening performance will take place at this year's National Eisteddfod (8-10 Aug). It will then travel to Torch Theatre, Pembrokeshire (29 Aug), Theatr Soar, Merthyr Tydfil (30 Aug), Neuadd Dwyfor Arts Centre, Pwllheli (2 Sept), Sherman Theatre Cardiff (5-8 Sept), Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan (12 Sept), Pontio Bangor (15-16 Sept), Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon (20 Sept), Aberystwyth Arts Centre (22-23 Sept) and finishing the tour at Theatr Clwyd (27-30 Sept).

This filthy, funny, unfiltered show follows a Welsh woman’s chaotic journey towards having nothing to lose. She may seem oversexed, emotionally raw and, self-obsessed, but that’s the tip of the iceberg. With relationships straining and a guinea pig café struggling, she’s on the edge with seemingly nowhere to go.

Liam Evans-Ford, Executive Director of Theatr Clwyd said of the production:

Each year we produce a range of shows – from the best new writing from Welsh and Wales-based writers to new musicals, and major revivals. Fleabag is one of the best solo shows of the past 10 years – it has a distinctive voice, a rare humour. It’s a show we’ve been developing for the past 2 years, and will bring audiences the Welsh language version of a huge smash hit. This adaptation brings new layers of meaning and interpretation which will be unique to our production whilst being faithful to the original. We are extremely grateful that Phoebe has allowed us to take her story and tell it anew in the Welsh language – what a privilege, and what a brilliant, brilliant female led creative team we have to do just that.

Fleabag will be performed at Theatr Clwyd on 27-30 September. Tickets are from £10 with a recommended age rating of 16+. Booking is available at Theatr Clwyd’s website at www.theatrclwyd.com or call the Box Office on 01352 344101. Full tour listings can be found at www.theatrclwyd.com/event/fleabag.
