This landmark event has been created as part of the Welsh Government’s pilot test event programme. Theatr na nÓg, in partnership with Theatr Brycheiniog will present a family show during Half Term called We Need Bees. Performances will be at 11am on Thursday 3rd June and at 11am & 2pm on Friday 4th June. Bilingual families and welsh learners are especially welcome to the Friday afternoon performance which will be in welsh. Tickets prices start at £18 for two people and the event will be held in the King George V playing field next to the theatre.

Tickets are available to buy online and the Theatr Brycheiniog Box Office will temporarily be made available via telephone in the run up to the event. Tickets can be purchased using the usual telephone number, 01874 611622 Monday - Friday, 10am - 3pm. People are encouraged to book early as places will be restricted to allow for social distancing .

News was announced last week that the Welsh Government were launching a number of pilot test events across Wales, which included Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon. Director David Wilson said "staff at Theatr Brycheiniog and Theatr na nÓg have been working directly with the Welsh Government to ensure all necessary safety policies and procedures are in place to develop processes and guidance that will allow the safe return of events in Wales. We are delighted to be able to welcome children and families to this event and look forward to introducing them to the thrill and buzz that only live theatre can bring. Especially when it is possible that some very young children may never have experienced live entertainment because of lockdown. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of a safe and successful test events programme which will hopefully lead to larger gatherings back to theatres and other venues later this year."

We Need Bees by Katherine Chandler, tells the story of what happens when Spring has sprung and all the incredible wildlife is waking up from a long cold winter, including our friend Bron the honey bee. Join her and her "buzz-tastic” friends as she shares her exciting adventures pollinating the wonderful world of flowers and plants. We meet Bron’s old friend Bertie Bee at the bottom of the heap of a busy beehive, spending his day pollinating bland old apples. He'd prefer to be free to pollinate wildflowers instead. In a moment of rebellion, he leaves the hive, putting the whole colony and his best friend Bron in danger. Now Bertie has to be brave. What will happen next? Who is the mysterious Crab-Spider? Will Bertie succeed and save his friends? With live music composed by Barnaby Southgate.

These pilot events have been selected in discussion with the Welsh Government’s project board for the test event programme and event owners. A testing protocol and risk assessment will be tailored for each event. Further details and information surrounding the terms and conditions around attending this test event are available on the Theatr Brycheiniog website. Anyone booking tickets to the event acknowledges that this is a test event and will be asked to provide personal details. After booking tickets to the test event, audience members will receive an email from Theatr Brycheiniog containing digital tickets which will then be scanned directly from a smartphone upon arrival at the test even by a member of the Box Office team.

Theatr Brycheiniog is also funded by the Arts Council of Wales, Powys County Council and Brecon Town Council. We are also delighted to announce our two business sponsors for the event Llanfaes Dairy and Calibre Connections.
