The Facts!

Operation Julie was the name given to one of the biggest undercover drugs operations in UK history, with 11 police forces and over 800 officers working on the case throughout the mid-seventies.

It’s an investigation that started with a fatal car accident in Machynlleth which delivered an unexpected lead, and ended with an internationally co-ordinated drugs bust on 26 March 1977 during which 120 people were arrested across Wales, England and France.

The haul was staggering. There was enough LSD to reach a street value of £570 million today - the operation removed 90% of LSD from the UK market, causing it to rocket to 5 times its pre-1977 street price. And the operation’s focus? The rural hillsides of West Wales.

A little about the show-

Breaking Bad collides with The Good Life in a psychedelic true story from the hillsides of rural Wales.

It was hardly a typical drugs bust. When police from around the country swooped before dawn on Tregaron one morning in 1977, dozens of the 800 officers working the case looked like unshaven, long-haired hippies plucked from the audience of a Led Zep gig.

And the vast LSD co-operative they were targeting was, if anything, even more unconventional. Its leading members included doctors, scientists and university graduates - motivated, they insisted, by an evangelical drive to transform human consciousness itself.

An anarchic play with music from the 70's prog-rock that tells the incredible story of the undercover operation that smashed one of the most extraordinary drug rings the world has ever seen.

Check out the AMAZING litimed edition bottles we have availible for the show in our bar!

Here is what Theatr Director David Wilson had to say-

“We are thrilled that Operation Julie will be coming to Brecon, and this summer we get to treat audiences to a (prog) rock musical. It will be a cracking fun night out.

Theatr na NÓg are brilliant at creating great theatre, and this show is sure to enthrall locals and visitors alike - its such an infamous story!

The whole team at Theatr B are also looking forward to sharing our new spaces (a new bar, café and foyer layout). The works have been tricky to programme as we have wanted to stay open as much as we can, but this summer we will have a whole new look (to go with our refreshed brand) alongside some superb shows and events.

We cannot wait, see you there.”

Competition time! (18+ only!)

The herd has escaped! We managed to get a few goats to help us promote Operation Julie but someone left the doors open… help us find them and you could win a beer, that’s right an adult scavenger hunt! Why should children have all the fun this summer holidays?

How do you take part we hear you ask? easy, just take photos when you see a goat If you are quick you could win. When you have all 10 photos of the herd rounded up post it on social media and tag us so we can see it!

There are 10 goats dotted around town! Only the first 3 people to find them all and tag us will win a LIMITED edition Operation Julie beer. The VERY first person to get photos of all 10 will also win one of Brecon Chocolates famous “Sheep Shed”, how awesome is that?!

Apparently some are already in shops, and some are running around hiding in phone boxes… we imagine that they will be settled in a few days and the hunt can begin. Keep a look out!
