Spotlight on: National Theatre Wales, Feral Monster
February 19, 2024
Feral Monster follows Jax and her noisy, opinionated brain as they navigate love, identity, class and family. Mashing up grime, R&B, soul, pop and rap, the soundtrack takes us from the high highs to low lows of the hormonal rollercoaster of adolescence.

Theatre Fun for all the family!

Enjoy the sunshine season with some amazing live performances that are fun for all the family.

We start the month with a film screening of Disney’s Wall-E in our auditorium. This is a FREE event suitable for all ages, but booking is required. This is an out of world voyage you don’t want to miss!

Our FREE summer outdoor show, Frogs in Bogs, will be performing across the Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday), with two performances a day (2pm Welsh and 4pm bilingual). See superhero frog plumbers crack a clogging crime and defeat the evil toilet duck. A fantastic and imaginative show that is guaranteed to make you laugh!

August is awesome for music lovers! Brecon Jazz Festival’s return for 2023 celebrates 40 incredible years of incredible years of inspiring, moving, comedic and monumental jazz music and performances from Wales and across the globe.

Get ready to make some noise and have fun with the inspirational and outstanding Taiko Drumming Family Workshop. These Japanese drums will leave you feel uplifted and energised thanks to the rhythms and body movements of Taiko.

Let’s reflect on the last few weeks!

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community throughout these past few weeks. The enthusiasm and participation from all ages in events such as MWDA’s ‘A Welsh Celebration’ and the Young Music Promoters ‘School's Out’ Celebration have truly made these events unforgettable.

The support and involvement of community arts groups at The Royal Reception further highlighted the vibrant and diverse creative scene in our town. As staff and volunteers at Brecon’s Theatr Brycheiniog welcomed Their Majesties The King and Queen on a visit to the town on Thursday 20th July 2023.

Their Majesties also met members of the local community and celebrated the local volunteering and public service sector during a reception hosted by the First Minister Mark Drakeford.

The King and Queen were given a musical welcome to the Theatr with a short performance by Theatr Brycheiniog’s Lunchtime Uplift Choir & the Alive & Kickin’ Community Choir Brecon.

Many community arts groups who use Theatr Brycheiniog were also represented at The Royal Reception. They included Mid Wales Dance Academy and Brecon Festival Ballet, Brecon Jazz, Brecon Little Theatre, The Westenders theatre group, Brecknock Young Farmers’ Club and the Urdd. Music during the reception was organised by Brecon Jazz and provided by the Swing Strings Trio - three top Welsh Jazz musicians who are regular performers at the annual Brecon Jazz Festival, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this August.

The fun continued with Pop Divas Live! Who joined us on the 22nd July and made some noise on our stage, and the crowd LOVED them. It was the UK’s number one pop concert experience featuring tributes to all your favourite female pop stars on the same stage for the first time ever!

As we reflect on these amazing experiences, we can't help but feel a sense of excitement for the Summer ahead. The upcoming months are filled with a variety of performances and events that we can't wait to share with our community. From live music concerts to theatrical productions, there is something for everyone to enjoy at Theatr Brycheiniog.

We also had three students join us for a week for their work experience and they really became part of the team and got stuck in to the daily goings on of Theatr Brycheiniog.

“It was a once in a lifetime experience and it was amazing to be around such nice and kind people.” - Branwen

“It was an amazing experience to be able to meet people through the theatre and to work with people of a similar interest.” – Teagan

“Everyone was so welcoming and informative, and this was a great experience that I found very enjoyable.” – Millie

We are truly fortunate to have such a loyal and engaged community, and we look forward to continuing to provide exceptional entertainment and cultural experiences throughout the summer and into our next theatrical season

ART IN THE BAR

Calling all artists and makers! Are you an artist or maker based in Brecknockshire? Theatr Brycheiniog are inviting creatives to propose artwork for display in the Theatr Bar as part of our new Art in the Bar programme. Your work will be displayed, for sale for up to eight weeks. Follow us on social media to be sure to receive call outs for display opportunities or visit the gallery pages on our website for more information.

We invite artists and makers living and working locally to Brecon to submit framed artwork for sale in our café. If you have a small series of flat artwork, between four and eight pieces, that you think might look great in our Theatr Bar, let us know!

Artwork is selected by the Theatr Display Programme team for display. Selected artworks are displayed for up to eight weeks as part of an ongoing programme that seeks to promote the artwork of local artists, and support artists through sales. All art-work in the café is for sale, with the Theatr taking 20% commission.

The Theatr can only offer display opportunities for framed or flat artwork, by this we mean anything in a frame, or flat works that can be hung with picture hooks. There are some limitations to the scale of artworks that can be displayed due to the nature of the space.

To propose your artwork for display in the Theatr Café, simply fill in the Café Display Proposal Form and email it to us, along with a few low res images. If the Programme Group are interested, you’ll be invited to share your work with us in person.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!
