Small Island embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through the Second World War to 1948 – the year the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury.
The play follows three intricately connected stories. Hortense yearns for a new life away from rural Jamaica, Gilbert dreams of becoming a lawyer, and Queenie longs to escape her Lincolnshire roots. Hope and humanity meet stubborn reality as the play traces the tangled history of Jamaica and the UK.
A company of 40 actors take to the stage of the National Theatre in this timely and moving story.
Please note our BBFC rating for Small Island will now be a 15+, as it contains strong language and themes that some people may find distressing.

The gumboot dancing became a voice of protest amongst mine workers nationwide with the messages and vocals sung by locals taking on a political message to fight the oppression of the government.

The Cosmopolitan Music Society (CMS) is one of the largest and oldest community music organizations in Canada. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the CMS is founded in a tradition of excellence in performance and adult music education. Established in 1963, CMS has 4 wind bands, from beginner to advanced, a 90 voice mixed chorus and 2 jazz ensembles totaling over 300 members.
The CMS Tour Band, which features the advanced musicians, has been to Europe three times – the Mid-Europe Festival in Schladming, Austria (2008), Frank Tichelli Homecoming to Rome (2011) and the Gӧteborgs Kulturkalas Sweden (2016). The group enjoys showcasing Canadian Concert Band Music and other inspiring repertoire.

Pupils aged 11 - 18 perform acts in the style of street dance, cheerleading, contemporary and ballet. This year will see the addition of South Powys' primary schools' performances supported by Powys Dance.

Don Pasquale brings together a cast of larger-than-life characters, including Pasquale’s young nephew Ernesto and his girlfriend Norina, as well as local geezer Malatesta and his travelling band who hang around Pasquale’s kebab van after their long nights of boozing.
Welsh National Opera brings Daisy Evans’ brilliant new production to venues across Wales and England throughout the summer of 2019, following on from the success of Elena Langer’s Rhondda Rips It Up! in 2018.
Don Pasquale features a small cast and an on-stage orchestra like you’ve never seen or heard before.

Shakespeare’s enduring love story is known the world over. Since its 1965 premiere with The Royal Ballet, Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet has become a modern ballet classic. The choreography captures the emotions of the young couple as they fall in love, despite the barriers that finally bring about the story’s tragic end. Each revival gives opportunities for new dancers to interpret the doomed lovers. The whole Company brings the colour and action of Renaissance Verona, where a busy market all too quickly bursts into sword fighting, and a family feud leads to tragedy for both the Montagues and Capulets.

An Evening With Simon Weston CBE

Mere words alone seem so inadequate when referring to Simon Weston.
He was a soldier serving in the British Army at the time of the Falklands War in 1982 when two Argentine planes bombed RFA Sir Galahad and turned the ship into an inferno. Simon survived but suffered burns to 46% of his body, yet, he would say he was lucky as he lost many of his comrades that day.
Since that fateful day he has become one of the most recognised faces of the conflict and in this show he discusses his experiences with his close friend David FitzGerald from the BBC.
Simon Weston is a truly remarkable man who despite all he has suffered has emerged as one of these countries most inspirational people. His story has highs and lows, laughter and tears and on that journey he has subsequently met Royalty, the pilot who dropped the bomb and even Harry Patch the last survivor of WW1.
The show will come delivered with footage from the conflict and will include a Q & A session.

The heart lifts and the breeze blows it into the air.
On the other side of the village in a plastic bag hidden in the corner of a dusty old artists studio, an artist’s broken childhood doll, mixed with other doll parts begins to shuffle, until they make a whole. A beautiful doll with two heads. The heart blows through the window and gently lands on the dolls breast. MathildaMathilda opens her eyes, rolls them around and starts… she is alive! With his impeccable technique, vibrato and musical elegance, he appears here with leading violinist van Hemert. This concert is co-created by Brecon Jazz Club with UK musician / promoter Chris Quinn, North Wales Jazz and the team at Theatr Brycheiniog. The Dutch-based Rosenberg family have become known globally as the ‘first family’ in gypsy jazz, in constant demand at festivals and concerts internationally. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.
Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.

Live Music | Cerddoriaeth FywThis exciting Music, Words and Live Art event with music painter Maryleen Schiltkamp and the Fitzwilliam String Quartet promises to be a unique experience! Maryleen will paint on canvas, live on stage in response to the Fitzwilliam String Quartet’s performance of Shostakovich’s 10th String Quartet. The quartet will also play Shostakovich’s 11th String Quartet and there will be readings from the composer’s diaries and memoirs. Music painting is an exciting new performance art, combining live music with artistic creations on canvas. The live painting on stage will follow and literally illustrate the musical movement and shapes heard and the colour of sound.
The Fitzwilliam is now one of the longest established string quartets in the world and achieved international recognition as a result of its members’ personal friendship with Dmitri Shostakovich and their subsequent championing of his string quartets following his death. Shostakovich entrusted them with the Western premières of the last three quartets and they became the first ever group to perform and record all fifteen.

It was 4am. I then changed the name of a WhatsApp I was a part of to COLD LASAGNE HATE MYSELF 1999 because I had been thinking a lot about how 1999 was the best year of my life and also about how much I hate myself sometimes. The next day I was asked to name my new show. Come along.

This original play for young children uses a rich mix of storytelling, physical theatre, clowning, puppetry and music & song to tell the tale of a puppy’s search for friendship in the wilderness of the Alps.

When one of the swans turns into a beautiful young woman he is instantly captivated – will his love prove strong enough to break the evil spell that she is under?

This is an adaption of their regular show to extend a warm welcome to anyone who might find it difficult to follow the usual conventions of theatre etiquette and especially those on the autistic spectrum, those who may make involuntary noises, or anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.
During a relaxed performance House Lights are left on low and strobe lighting may be removed. Loud noises or pyrotechnics are either taken out entirely or reduced. The audience is free to go in and out as needed and latecomer rules are relaxed. Making noise during the performance is not discouraged. There are additional staff members on hand to assist as required and the cast and crew has awareness training before the performance.
Chill-out areas are provided for anyone who may become overwhelmed by the performance. The house will open earlier to give everyone plenty of time to get to their seats.
People with a learning or physical disability, autistic spectrum condition, or sensory or communication disorder are especially welcome. This performance is open to people of all ages.

Live Music | Cerddoriaeth FywBack in 2007, Welsh harpist Catrin Finch met with Colombian joropo band Cimarrón and embarked on an exhilarating tour of Wales, a collaboration repeated in 2009 and 2010. Ten years later, Catrin and Cimarrón meet again to tour the UK.
Catrin Finch is a remarkable and fearless artist, one of the world’s leading harp players, whose career has featured both solo performances with the world’s top orchestras and, more recently, collaborations with some of the leading world music artists, including Toumani Diabate and, most successfully, Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita, with whom she forms “one of the most popular world music acts of this decade” (Tim Cumming, Songlines).
The 6-piece Grammy-nominated Cimarrón perform joropo dance music from the cattle-rearing plains of the Orinoco, rooted in a deep tradition defined by the mestizo mixed heritage of African, Spanish and indigenous cultures, and led by harpist and composer Carlos Rojas. Cimarrón make wild, untamed music that preserves the spirit of freedom found in one of the world’s most untouched regions. Fast paced and powerful, it’s music, with impetuous singing, amazing stomp dancing and fierce instrumental virtuosity of strings and percussion.

In Francis Rossi: I Talk Too Much, the founder, lead singer and lead guitarist of Status Quo will talk about his mishaps and adventures of life on the road with one of the biggest and most loved bands ever.
Francis is a true member of British Rock Royalty. He sang the first words at Live Aid in 1985, survived the obligatory rock’n’roll brush with alcohol and drugs, was awarded an OBE in 2010 and has a BRIT for his Outstanding Contribution to Music. His band has sold more than 120 million records globally.
Expect laughter, revelations, tales involving some of the giants of music, exclusive video clips, snatches of classic tunes and a great night out.
Rossi will be joined on stage by award-winning writer and broadcaster Mick Wall, who has sold more than 1 million books.
