From the company that produced the sell out show ‘An Evening with Nigel Owens’ – Ad/Lib Cymru are happy to bring their new show to Theatr Brycheiniog.
As the great Muhammad Ali once said - “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything.”
Here are three sportsmen – former international rugby players serving Wales brilliantly along with the Lions and The Ospreys. But not just superb sportsmen – they are also the best of friends.
During this evening we’ll hear all about their friendship along with the tales on and off the rugby field.

The Songs of Leonard Cohen
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Music | Cerddoriaeth FywKeith James in concert
The Songs of Leonard Cohen
These remarkable songs - stripped back, honest, naked and sensual.
‘There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in’ Cohen’s most memorable and visionary line from his song ANTHEM. If ever there was a sentence in modern poetry to reflect on and give hope and understanding to us all, it is this line. This Concert begins with ANTHEM.
Enigmatic, mysterious and sub textural, songwriter Leonard Cohen was an unflinching character, with an exact sense of prose, wry humour and the courage to wrestle with the unspoken, forgiving human frailty and indulgence with the stroke of each word.
The very beginning of Leonard Cohen as a songwriter happened during the 1960’s on the Greek Island of Hydra where he met Marianne Ihlen, the love of his life. He was spending his time on Hydra writing a novel and a collection of poetry; it was Marianne who encouraged him to turn many of the poems into songs; Bird on a Wire being the most notable.
The chilling announcement of Leonard's death marked the end of an era. His music befriended an entire generation. Within every line of his writing, he has been challenging us to listen more carefully, speak more thoughtfully, think more deeply and recognize our own vulnerability. Our World misses him very much.
With a lifetime reputation of performing in this exact way and an undying love of the ‘pure song’ Keith James gives you a concert of Cohen’s amazing material in the most intimate and sensitive way imaginable, exposing the solitary inner strength of his greatest songs in their original perfect form.Keith has performed an extensive tour of this concert in Theatres and Arts Centres across the UK, giving over 550 concerts to more than 150,000 people. This has proved to be ‘life changing’ and one of the greatest honours in Keith James’ 50 year career.
Included in the concert are Cohen’s well-known songs: Famous Blue Raincoat, Sisters of Mercy, Suzanne, and Hallelujah alongside his rarer and profound writing such as If it be your will, Joan of Arc and Secret Life. Also included are Keith’s dramatic performances based on the work of Federico Garcia Lorca – Cohen’s greatest influence. Keith has also transcribed into song one of Leonard’s poems from his collection ‘Book of longing’ written whilst on retreat during the 1990s.

Under Milk Wood 70th Anniversary
Theatr Brycheiniog
Live Screenings | Sgrinio BywBBFC Rating - 15 (No persons under 15 will be admitted into the auditorium)
fFatti fFilms in association with S4C, Tinopolis and Ffilm Cymru Wales, are pleased to present Kevin Allen’s radically updated version of Dylan Thomas’s iconic poetic prose work, Under Milk Wood.
Regarded as the ultimate legacy of the 100th anniversary of Dylan Thomas’s birth, this lusty, genuinely accessible Under Milk Wood promises to appeal to a wide-ranging audience.
Starring Rhys Ifans, Charlotte Church and directed by Kevin Allen (Twin Town, The Big Tease, Y Syrcas), this Under Milk Wood presents an erotic, surreal interpretation, and this unique movie offering of his most iconic work will engage with British cinema audiences this autumn.
With a boldly adapted screenplay written by Murray Lachlan Young, Michael Breen and Kevin Allen, this Under Milk Wood confidently steers away from some of the more prudish renditions of Thomas’s original work. However, whilst staying faithful to Thomas’s original text, Allen’s richly cinematic interpretation explores some of the more visceral elements of the magical, ghoulish dreamscape of this distinctive work; beguiling, erotic elements that have previously been stiffly swept under the proverbial carpet. Combining the heady mix of Thomas’ rich, deeply moving narrative poetry and devilish, comically animated prose, this visual feast of a film audaciously sets out to reintroduce one the world’s greatest poets to film lovers and poetry connoisseurs alike, whilst appealing to a whole new generation waiting to be introduced to the magic of his most spectacular work.
Synopsis:
Under Milk Wood opens at nightfall, whilst the eccentric residents of Llareggub (read it backwards) are fast aslumber, and through blind Captain Cat (Rhys Ifans) - the story’s living portal through which the 1st & 2nd Voice narration guides us through this exotic tale - we gradually become aware that we are bearing witness to the townspeople's deepest dreams.
The tormented blind sea captain is visited in his dreams by his drowned shipmates, who long to live again and enjoy the pleasures of the world they once shared together.
Mog Edwards and Myfanwy Price, living at opposite ends of the town, dream of each other’s unrequited love. The seventeen stone drunk hulk of Mr. Waldo dreams of his childhood and his failed marriages. Prim and proper Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard exercises her perverse sexual fantasies with her deceased husbands, while lonely landlord, Sinbad Sailors, recalls his most primitive lusting for his untouchable demure school teacher love, miss Gossamer Beynon.
As dawn beckons, through the beauty of Dylan Thomas’ mesmerising poetry, the narration of 1st & 2nd Voice guides us through Llareggub’s characters and introduce us to their subterranean lives.

Theatr Brycheiniog
Children's Events | Digwyddiadau i BlantMilly Jackdaw presents a fusion of traditional storytelling, physical theatre, music and ceremony in this solo performance based on the life of Myrddin and his encounters with magical animals. We explore the living myth, and its relevance to our current times through tales which restore sense of meaning, wonder and hope.
We find Myrddin seeking the sanctuary of an apple tree, a remedy for disturbing futuristic visions triggered by the Battle of Arderydd. He befriends a wolf and a pig and the stories they tell each other unearth deep memories of an ancient sow goddess, a gallant quest involving the pursuit of the giant boar Twrch Trwyth, Myrddins own early life and his mysterious conception.
1500 years later a young single mum receives a visitation that will influence the course of her life, ultimately leading her to Wales and to Hartfell in Dumfries, on a quest for the living myth of Myrddin and the primal power of the land. We are called to re-evaluate the stories we tell ourselves and to discover codes, hidden till the time is right for revelation.
