venue update from theatr brycheiniog
We have received so many messages of support and we know that our audiences and visitors think of us fondly, so we are hopeful, whilst careful, with how we develop plans and ways of working.
During the pandemic so far we have:
- Hosted the professional dance team for Brecon Festival Ballet, who were allowed an approved rehearsal week in August 2020
- Re-opened a level of café service also in August and continued when allowed throughout the autumn
- Provided much needed access to toilet facilities in line with our opening times for the café service
- Facilitated many resuming classes and safe activities with our community Companies and members
- Provided a safe and covid-secure venue for filming, rehearsals and provided work for freelancers where possible
We now have plans to open our cultural café as soon as measures allow.
We held an open call for artists and designers, recruiting a freelancer to support the development of an artistically curated space on our stage and in our auditorium.
Theatr Brycheiniog are in the process of moving the café function to the flat floored auditorium to increase the COVID secure measures for visitors to the Theatr at the Canal Basin. We plan to open our exciting Cultural Café as soon as the Welsh Government guidelines allow. The Cultural Café installation is a celebration of the wonderful myriad of people who would usually utilise the space at Theatre Brycheiniog. A whole cross section of the community in Brecon make use of the theatre for numerous activities, from Tai Chi to Taiko Drumming, Ballet Dancing to Band Practice. While the theatre is in limited use those groups of people cannot be as present as they would like to be in the space. In response to this, artist and theatre designer Harry Pizzey has created an installation which depicts over sixty members of the Theatre Brycheiniog community from eighteen different user groups making them present once again in the building. These portraits are displayed in the auditorium in a huge sky-like blue arch as a reminder of the amazing range of activities and people that would normally occupy the theatre and will continue to do so when restrictions are lifted.
We’ll offer a beautiful celebratory space for hot and cold drinks, light pre-packaged snacks and a selection of sweet treats, pastries and cakes. Perfect for the pick me up we all need.
We plan to open initially between 11am and 3pm, but as measures allow and we all get used to our new ways of working, it is hoped these hours can be extended.
As we grow and develop into our new hours it may be that we continue to need additional staff support, so if you are at all interested in working with us, please let us know by calling 01874 611 622 or emailing Lisa Cascarini, General Manager email@example.com or simply dropping by when we are allowed to reopen.
PERFORMANCES, AUDITORIUM AND BOX OFFICE
We value every audience member and appreciate your patience during these difficult times. However, we will need you to bear with a little while longer as we now prepare the Theatr for the Welsh Government tier system. As required to, under Tier 4 restrictions, the Theatr unfortunately remains closed but we may reopen potentially for events under tier 2. Please note some restrictions and conditions may apply and it might take us time to create responses to some measures. Please bear with us during this time.
All performances and shows that can be postponed are being rescheduled, and our current plan is to reopen for the autumn for performances and events. In response to this we will now provide limited box office and ticketing staffing to undertake the necessary administration of the rescheduling and all bookings. They will start to contact customers to arrange exchanges to new dates as soon as they can. Please continue to be patient as we work through this.
Please be reassured that your tickets will automatically be valid for the new date and of course, if for any reason you cannot make it, then a refund will be due.
However, these are extreme circumstances and when our box office reopens, if a large percentage of our audiences require a refund, this will either take us a long time to service or plunge us into further financial difficulty.
If you do require a refund, please provide all your details to the Box Office when they call you. All refunds will be internally escalated to our Finance Team who will then process your refund as soon as possible. Please be aware that our Finance team will also be unfurloughed gradually and restricted working hours may be in place for all our staff.
We do ask at this difficult time if you might consider donating the costs of your tickets to Theatr Brycheiniog if you do not intend on resuming your attendance or perhaps consider one of the other ways to demonstrate support for the Theatr and the work that we do.
Your support is invaluable and will allow us to continue, to make this as simple as possible we have laid out four ways in which you can help right now.
