venue update from theatr brycheiniog
We have received so many messages of support and we know that our audiences and visitors think of us fondly, so we are hopeful, whilst careful, with how we develop plans and ways of working. With so much changing we thought it important to lay out our short and long-term plans. The front page of our website will have the latest information on what and when we will be open.
We are currently working hard behind the scenes to maintain the building’s safety so that we can open aspects of what we do. Our current plans are to:
- Host the professional dance team for Brecon Festival Ballet, allowing an approved rehearsal week from the 17th August 2020.
- Re-open a level of café service from Thursday 20th August 2020, initially running between 10am and 4pm, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
- Re-open and provide access to toilet facilities in line with our opening times for the café service.
We will be able to provide hot and cold drinks, some packaged snacks and ice-cream when we re-open and if this proves popular we will work towards expanding both the days and times we open and the produce we supply. Please bear with us, we have to, like most operations, plan in detail and review everything we do, and our highest priority is the safety and welfare of all our visitors and staff.
We have been advised not to reopen the Box Office by the authorities and this is covered in more detail below. We are looking at whether we might resume live screenings within social distancing regulations and guidance for cinemas, if we are able to we will make further announcements about this.
Whilst we are pleased to return to work, it is disappointing that we cannot return to everything we do. Our main purpose as you know is to be a theatre, arts centre and gallery and for the time being we are not allowed to entertain these elements of our work, we will need to continue to furlough a large proportion of the staff team and for this reason it may take us longer to adopt changes and undertake other tasks. We ask again for your patience at this time.
Performances, Auditorium and Box Office
We value every audience member and appreciate your patience during these difficult times. However, we will need you to bear with us for a bit longer while all our staff are furloughed, and then slowly return to work.
We still do not have the necessary clarity from the authorities with regard to when we might resume a programme that may allow audiences, with or without social distancing in place.
We have also canvassed you by providing surveys via the national Indigo and Arts Council Wales questionnaires. It is clear that there will be little to no demand to return to indoor performances whilst there is so much uncertainty over the pandemic. To open the theatre or Box Office without understanding when an audience may be allowable or probable is not economically viable and financially impossible.
When our Box Office reopens it will be with minimal staffing and we expect a high volume of enquiries. Please be reassured that our tickets will automatically be valid for the new date (with the same seats) and of course, if for any reason you cannot make it, then a refund will be due.
However, these are extreme circumstances and when our box office reopens, if a large percentage of our audiences require a refund, this will either take us a long time to service or plunge us into further financial difficulty.
If you do require a refund, please provide all your details to the Box Office when this becomes possible. All refunds will be internally escalated to our Finance Team who will then process your refund as soon as possible. Please be aware that our Finance team will also be unfurloughed gradually and restricted working hours may be in place for all our staff.
We do ask at this difficult time if you might consider donating the costs of your tickets to Theatr Brycheiniog if you do not intend on resuming your attendance or perhaps consider one of the other ways to demonstrate support for the Theatr and the work that we do. Your support is invaluable and will allow us to continue, to make this as simple as possible we have laid out four ways in which you can help right now.
