Years 3 - 13 | Free to Enter | Closing Date: 30 August
The Prom Art Competition is open to students in Years 1 to 13 studying at any school in the County of Powys. The 2019 competition is based on the 5 act play Peer Gynt written by Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen (1828 to 1906). Students are asked to present their own artistic interpretation of any one of the scenes or characters featured in the play. Incidental music for the play was composed by Norwegian, Edvard Grieg (1843 to 1907). From this incidental music, Grieg arranged two Suites.
Suite number 1 comprises of: 'Morning Music'; 'The Death of Ase'; 'Anitra's Dance' and 'In the Hall of the Mountain King'.
Suite number 2 comprises of: 'The Abduction of the Bride' (Ingrid's Lament); 'Arabian Dance'; 'Peer Gynt's Homecoming' and 'Solveig's Song'.
Entrants are asked to use their imagination to depict any of the above scenes or characters from the play.
Artwork can be in any medium up to A2 size. The competition welcomes digitally-created art including animations, GIFs, and moving images. These can also be sent by email with YouTube or Vimeo links to Carla@lumenartprojects.com.
Students may also submit sculptures, masks, costumes or works created by a group of students. All physical submissions must be delivered to Theatr Brycheiniog by the closing date of the 30th August 2019. Judging will take place during the first week of September. The judges are the Punch Maughan, Head of Visual Arts, Theatr Brycheiniog and Carla Rapoport, Director, Lumen Art Projects
Prizes will be awarded at the Last Night of the Proms Concert on Monday 30th September 2019. Three prizes will be awarded: £15 cash prize in the Primary School category, Years 1 - 3 and £15 for students in Years 4 - 6. For secondary school students there will be a £50 cash prize for students aged 11 - 13; £50 for students aged 14 - 15 and £50 for students 16 and over. Discretionary prizes, such as Honourable Mentions, may also be awarded. Short-listed entries will be projected onto a screen above the stage whilst the band is performing the music at their Prom Concert on 30th September.
The Theatre will hold an exhibition of all shortlisted PromArt work submitted, in the Andrew Lamont Gallery from 6 -14th Setpember 2019. Curation of the artwork will be carried out by Theatr Brycheiniog.

Please find the entry form attached. Please attach this form to each work or you may send in a spread sheet with all the information on it in one place, by email or in paper form when dropping off the works. PLEASE label each entry as well, on the back if possible, or affix a label to the work if it’s 3D. If you are sending a digital file, such as a Jpeg or Mp4, please name the file with the student’s name, the school and his or her name.

Schools may either submit forms on behalf of those students wishing to enter the competition, or students may enter themselves on an individual basis.
