Let's Showcase the Artistic Talent of our Students

In 2017 The Brecon Town Concert Band marked its 50th anniversary by launching PromArt 2017, an art competition open to all students from Years 3 to 13. The band joined forces with Theatr Brycheiniog and the Lumen Prize for Digital Art to promote, celebrate and showcase the artistic talents of students studying in schools / colleges across Powys. The success of this competition with over 280 submissions has ensured it’s future into 2018.

For 2018 students are asked to present their own artistic interpretation of any one of the animals or instruments that are featured in this year’s Prom Concert performance of Prokofiev’s Peter and The Wolf.

Artwork may be presented in any size up to A2. A selection of entries will be projected above the band playing on stage during their Prom Concert and a wide range of entries will be selected for the Andrew Lamont Gallery at Theatr Brycheiniog from 8 to 23 September 2018. The closing date for entries is Friday 20 July 2018.

Artwork will be judged by Carla Rapoport, Founder and Director of the internationally acclaimed Lumen Prize for digital art and Punch Maughan, the Visual Arts Coordinator for The Andrew Lamont Gallery at Theatr Brycheiniog. Punch curated the annual art exhibition ‘Art @ No 10’, Brecon for seven years before commencing her role at the theatre in 2017.

Cash prizes will be awarded at the concert on Monday 10 September for Primary School Children this will be a £15.00 prize for the two categories: years 1-3 and years 4-6. Secondary School Children winners will receive £50 for each of the 3 categories (ages 11-13, ages 14 -16 and 16+). Discretionary prizes may be available for exceptional runners up.

The team behind PromArt 2018 has a passion for art in rural communities as a unique form of expression and would like to see our artistic students given a broader platform to exhibit their considerable talents outside their schools. We would be very grateful if you would help us to achieve this by encouraging your students to participate.
